EAU CLAIRE NORTH YOUTH WRESTLING PROGRAM

Wrestling is a foundation sport that instills confidence, teaches self-defense, helps you improve in other sports, teaches toughness, has kids compete against opponents of similar size and experience, and is fun! The sport of wrestling is the ultimate competition where two individuals take their individual strengths and match them up against one another. It is a battle of technique, speed, agility, flexibility, strength, wits, and toughness and once you have wrestled, everything else in life is easy!

Husky In Training Program: Students in grades Pre-K/4K through 2

The sole focus of wrestling in this group is learning! Our program utilizes a FUN and fundamentals format and uses games, structured play, and skill development of fundamental motor skills and movement patterns to teach wrestling and the character values of Respect and Responsibility. The Husky Youth program does not believe in a competitive focus for this age group. At this age kids should be focused on learning wrestling, improving their motor skills, getting stronger and having fun! During the season, practices are on Monday and Thursday nights from 5:30-6:15 PM. Competition/local tournaments are not encouraged for wrestlers in this age group.

Big Dog Program: Students in Grades 3-5

Athletes are broken up into two groups at this level based on experience.

3 primary focuses for less experienced athletes

Body Awareness/Tumbling

Isometric and Plyometric Strength

Wrestling Specific Skill Development/Refinement

In the more experienced group, emphasis is on fine tuning techniques and this group utilizes more live wrestling. Athletes are encouraged to compete in at least one event but the athlete’s total number of matches during the season should never exceed the number of practices attended. This age group practices twice a week for an hour on Mondays and Thursdays from 6:15-7:15.

Middle School Wrestling: Students in Grades 6-8

Student-athletes in middle school will participate on the Delong or Northstar Middle School wrestling team (register through the school district). 6th-8th grade wrestlers are welcome to attend any of the youth practices at any level.
